“...provide resources services and support to school boards...”
a) Demonstration School
The Demonstration School currently provides for
two school resources consultants whose main assignment
is to process the intake for the purpose of the Provincial
Committee on Learning Disabilities, for all intent
and purposes, the admission committee for that school.
Both resources consultants will perform a combined
total of some forty-eight orthopedagogical assessments
across the province of Ontario, in most of the twelve
French school boards.
b) Provincial School: School Resources for the Deaf
Currently six school resources consultants, specialized
in Deaf
Education, provide consulting services to the French
school boards across the province of Ontario,
for a
combined caseload of 201 students. It is under
the combined authorities of Policy / Program no.1
and former
Policy / Program no 76C that our consultants
travel
the province to provide such services as support
to the
IPRC’s relating to deaf or hard of hearing
students enrolled in school boards, support to assessment
and IEP’s for the same students. Close to
558 such visits are expected to be scheduled for
the
current
school year.
c) Provincial School: School Resources for Vision
A total of three consultants provide services
to 88 students who are either blind, have low vision
or
some related condition. The service focuses on
school
age children, their parents and their school boards
and offer assistance in assessing visual functionality,
IEP’s, school and home visiting for consultations.
The
service also provides for transcripts in Braille
or
large print of authorized school books. This
group is constantly upgrading its skills in providing
a
better
service to students and boards. It is currently
being
trained in Vision Aids Technology Assessment
and Vision Enhancement Certification through
the
Mohawk
College.
d) Provincial School: School Resources for the Deafblind
Two school resources consultants provide services
to some 39 deafblind students in the francophone
communities of the 12 French school boards. The consultants
provide support services to families, teaching staff
and daycare centres.
It also should be noted that the Provincial School
at Centre
Jules-Léger also maintains a satellite
program for the Deafblind children within the Marius-Barbeau
School, under a pilot-project with Le Conseil catholique
de langue française du Centre-Est. Centre
Jules-Léger provides a teacher for this
program along with intensive support services from
the school
resources
for the Deafblind.
