The Provincial School component of Centre Jules-Léger
provides
pre-school services to parents of deaf or hard
of hearing infants. The services, currently
delivered
to some 31 children across the province by one
teacher, consists of home visits by the teacher
or
one of her parents advisors. Basically, they would
inform
the parents has to what options are available
to
them or their infant in terms of communication
modes: those could include assistive devices such
as
FM systems or hearing aids.Hearing parents whose
baby
will be using sign language will be provided
with
some access to sign language (LSQ). Families who
will be using oral language will have access
to
auditory-verbal therapy. This service would also
provide
support to parents in terms overall child development.
